Position Overview
ASI is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer Co-Op to support the development of new manufacturing processes, machine programming, prototyping, and production support. This is a hands-on engineering role designed for students who want to learn how to take a part from customer print → process design → machine programming → first-article → production.

The ideal candidate is curious, hands-on, eager to learn, and excited about a career in advanced manufacturing. Successful co-ops may be considered for transition into a full-time Manufacturing Engineer role.
Key Responsibilities

Assist engineers in developing manufacturing processes for new custom parts

Interpret customer prints and CAD models to determine manufacturing requirements

Program CNC equipment, including CNC wire bending machines, machining centers, and support systems

Design and build basic fixtures and supports for forming, welding, and assembly operations

Set up and run prototype jobs; verify parts meet dimensional and quality requirements

Support production by operating machines when needed to gain firsthand experience with workflows

Document process steps, setup instructions, and improvements for repeatability

Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to solve manufacturing challenges

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in efficiency, quality, and safety

Qualifications
Required:
-
Currently enrolled in a technical high school or college program in engineering, manufacturing, machining, CAD/CAM, or a related field

Interest in hands-on engineering and manufacturing

Ability to read engineering drawings

Self-starter with a proactive mindset; someone who looks for ways to solve problems rather than waiting for step-by-step instructions

Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, machinists, and operators

Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn by doing in a real production environment
Preferred
(not required):

Basic CNC machining, wire forming, or CAD/CAM software experience

Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers or micrometers

Exposure to mechanical design or shop environments
Work Environment

Hands-on shop floor environment working directly with engineers, machinists, and production operators

Fast-paced small business where team members often wear multiple hats

Compensation
-
$18–$20 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.

Co-op performance may lead to consideration for full-time employment.
